DR STEPHEN LEWIS: Consultant Sports Physician

 

Dr Stephen Lewis has been working in elite sport since 2002. He completed his Masters in Sports and Exercise in 2004 having initially trained as an orthopaedic surgeon.

​

He has been the full-time club doctor at Brighton and Hove Albion FC since 2014 and is also the Chief Medical Officer with Sussex county cricket club. Prior to these posts he worked for eleven years in the premier league as the club doctor for Fulham FC and spent eight years with England Women’s rugby as Head of Medicine. He has held posts working with Masters Tennis, the English Institute of Sport and Soccer Aid and worked for several years in a regional rehabilitation unit for the Armed Forces.

Steve has vast experience with acute and chronic musculoskeletal problems and has a particular interest in acute and chronic tendinopathies and groin injuries. He is qualified in the use of diagnostic ultrasound and offers injection therapy and works closely with other clinicians and therapists to provide a continuum of diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation.

PAUL KHOURY: Sports Physiotherapist

Paul Khoury currently holds the position of Head of Sport Science and Medicine for the Sri Lankan National Cricket Team. He is also the South East (UK) representative for the association for chartered physiotherapists in sport and exercise medicine.

 

He completed his masters in Sports and Exercise Medicine in 2016 after qualifying as a Physiotherapist in 2003. He also completed his MSc injection therapy module in 2015. Paul’s first degree was in Applied Sport Science and he is one of the few Physiotherapists to be a UKSCA accredited Strength and Conditioning Coach.

 

He has worked in elite sport since 2008, holding senior positions with Sussex and England Cricket, Brighton and Hove Albion Football Club, British Bobsleigh and Skeleton, International 7s rugby, and the British Forces.

 

Using his wealth of experience in sports and orthopaedic rehabilitation, Paul specialises in developing and coordinating medical management and rehabilitation strategies. He has a clinical interest in general and sport specific musculoskeletal injuries, tendon pathophysiology and advanced exercise rehabilitation. His key philosophy is to educate and empower patients, facilitating them to reach their individual high-performance or functional goals.

SOPHIE SCOTT: Sports Osteopath

Sophie graduated from the British School of Osteopathy in 1998 and has 20 years experience working in professional sport. 

 

She has recently returned from 7 years living and working in the USA where she was the Performance Director at the John McEnroe Tennis academy in Manhattan and also trained as a Pilates instructor.

 

Prior to moving to NYC in 2010 Sophie spent  5 years working as Osteopath and lead therapist at the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA), working with all players including Andy Murray and Johanna Konta; travelling internationally to all the Grand Slams as well as many of the other major tour events and the Federation cup. When back at the National Tennis Centre in London she was instrumental in the design and set up of the musculoskeletal screening programme for all the elite players.

 

Sophie worked as a consultant to John McEnroe at the Royal Albert Hall masters event in London.  

 

Prior to tennis Sophie worked as part of the multidisciplinary medical team at Fulham Football club in the premiership for 7 years. She began her career with 2 years touring the USA, Canada and Australia with an international Irish dance company. 

 

Sophie is a keen kitesurfer who competed in the Venezualan National championships! She  also enjoys mountain biking, skiing and marathon running. Sophie lives in West Sussex with her husband and three young children.

JEREMY CLARKE:  Consultant Laparoscopic Surgeon

Mr Jeremy Clark is one of Brighton’s most experienced Consultant Surgeons. He is a general surgeon and a specialist laparoscopic (keyhole) surgeon. Mr Clark specialises in the treatment of Colorectal diseases (bowel problems), Hernias, Gallstones, Haemorrhoids and complex abdominal pain.

PROF EUGENE McNALLY: Consultant MSK Radiologist

I am a whole-time Consultant Musculoskeletal Radiologist. I have over 20 years experience working at the Radiology Unit at the Nuffield Orthopedic Centre, Oxford, which I directed for 9 years. I also work at the Nuffield Manor Hospital Oxford and the BMI Clinic in Bath. My experience is in all forms of imaging and image guided intervention of Trauma, Tumour, Inflammatory, Sports Injury and generalised disorders of the musculoskeletal system including joints and spine. I have had visiting professorships to the University of Hokkaido and Stanford University.

 

I have been International guest speaker to the Royal Australian and New Zealand College annual congress on three occasions, the International Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine and Biology on three occasions, the World Federation of Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology and a Keynote speaker at RSNA twice. I have been invited lecturer at the International, European and British societies annually for the last 15 years. I have authored over 100 papers and abstracts, 20 book chapters and a book on musculoskeletal ultrasound that has been translated into seven languages. I am a fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists and the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland.

 

I am a member of the International Skeletal Society, European Society of Skeletal Radiology, the British Society of Skeletal Radiology and the Society of Skeletal Radiology (US). I have served on two occasions on the executive committee of the European Society of Skeletal Radiology, am an active member of their ultrasound and sport subcommittees and was their Congress President in 2005. I am currently immediate past President of the British Society of Skeletal Radiology.
